Scripture in Style

When you think of scripture memory, what comes to mind? Do you think of dozens of flashcards with verses written on them? Or maybe you think of having a verse pop into your head, but you just cannot remember the reference when you need it most! Or maybe, if you are like me, you think of your younger days in Sunday school when your teacher would share a verse that went with the lesson of the day and you would go home, work on memorizing it, and then come back the next week and recite it to him/her. It was a satisfying experience because you received a sticker or a prize for your efforts. On the contrary, maybe you feel like you do not have a good memory, and that scripture memory is only for people with photographic memories, or for people who are really smart and are good at studying. If this is how you feel currently, or have felt in the past, I believe God really wants to speak to you specifically and let you know that this is a lie from the enemy, Satan, who seeks to steal, kill, and destroy (John 10:10). He wants you to believe that scripture memory is too lofty of a task and one that you are incapable of. I know it to be true because I hear it when I ask people if I can recite some verses that I have memorized to them. They comment, "Wow, that is so amazing that you can do that. I could never memorize scripture like that - my memory is not that good."The reality is that we need to bring those lies into the light of God's Word to expose them. The Bible says that for all of those who have put their trust in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior of their lives, they have the mind of Christ (1 Corinthians 2:16). This means that for followers of Christ who have the Holy Spirit residing in their being, they can discern the things of God because they have received the very Spirit of God within them.
