A medieval romance which begins in Scotland in the year 1628. Catherine MacLeod, an independent, strong-willed, and intelligent woman who fights against the constraints of society to control her own destiny. In the hopes of averting further war within her clan, Catherine reluctantly agrees to marry her second cousinuntil she meets and falls in love with the ruthlessly handsome Ian Campbell. Throughout their stormy relationship, Catherine and Ian are constantly torn apart by misunderstandings, jealousy, and unforeseen circumstances taking Catherine around the world. Her adventures begin in the lush green beauty of Scotland, then sweep her away to an exotic island during the French and Spanish War. Finally able to return to Scotland, only to escape when war breaks out with England, she ultimately lands in Jamestown, Virginia. When Catherine and Ian finally come face to face in Jamestown, Catherine must make her most difficult decision.
