Vanished Explorers: A Tale about the First Americans is a gripping two-part, scientifically accurate, experience for Middle School students. Starr explores the possible activities of the First People in the Americas, who traveled to this continent by boat from Asia during the last of the Ice Age Floods, some 13,000 years ago. These vanished explorers tamed the northwestern borders of the current United States. Included in this book is the novel, a section on what was actually happening during this time period in history, and twenty-nine fun hands on activities which bring this time period alive to readers. Follow Little Swan and her Pre-Clovis family as they flee invaders at the mouth of the Columbia River; undertake a dangerous journey up the Columbia River, move overland along the Klickitat River to eventually settle in Green Grass Valley [the Pasco Basin]. Part Two begins when the two survivors of the flood move north along the Yakima River, across the rugged Cascade Mountains over harrowing Stampede Pass, along Green River, and end at the salty waters of Puget Sound.
