This book provides an overview of CLT practices in an African context, it provides the reader understand the meaning and nature of communicative language teaching by presenting the meaning of CLT, its historical background and challenges that Tanzanian English language teachers face when implementing CLT, such challenges include lack of authentic teaching and learning materials, large class size, student?s low level of communicative competence and teachers? low knowledge of CLT. It ends by suggesting various recommendations for actions to be taken by educational stake holders in order to improve the CLT classroom practices.
