Kolkata city has been experienced by migration of population and size and shape expansion due advancement of technology and developments of all sectors. Now it is realized that the changing scenario of Kolkata?s administrative identity is a representative of the uniqueness of population distribution pattern of Kolkata. The continuous effort of decentralization from Kolkata to Kolkata conurbation and satellite towns are undoubtedly a model in history of urban development and growth. Urban spatial expansion over different time period can be systematically mapped, monitored and accurately assessed from satellite data.
