Steve Lucas believes that he can control his own life. As he begins his final year of high school he is on a mission: he severs his ties to the football team and his party-going companions to improve his grades. Marian, a fiercely independent girl is new to the school and Steve falls in love. All of Steve's ideals are challenged and even with the help of his best friend Sven and his parents who have never understood him, Steve struggles against the strings of fate.
