Alaina can read the Record, an occult rendering of all that has ever occurred on Earth. She tells the story of Bethanne, a field anomaly, discovered by an advanced method of surveillance in a world already covered with cameras and a society numbly allowing each new incursion into the private lives of its members. Jeff, the tech wizard responsible for the surveillance, and his best friend, Morgan, embark on a road trip to interview the other field anomalies, but after each encounter, disaster strikes.
