He has been a farmer, elevator operator, and educator in the American Midwest. He speaks and writes about rural life in the final decades of the twentieth century, paying special attention to changes in family and community life. Bill and his wife Mary continue to follow the evolution of rural life at their farm in Wells County, North Dakota.
