The Black Man's Journal
Darrell Hall
"The Black Man's Journal", is a collection of journal entries created by a 28 year old black man in the city of Detroit. Through short stories, interviews, poetry, and testimonies, he is able to detail his experiences as a social worker, significant other to black women, and resident of the city that some may call - The "D", Motown, The 313, The Motor City, or home. His writing begins with a short poem entitled, "Who am I", which displays the perceived and true identity of African American males. The book ends with a letter that he created for the MAN upstairs (GOD). In the letter he praises GOD for his growth and development. In addition, he details the experiences that have led him to seek the one and only - GOD. He was once told, "If GOD is the only thing you have, you don't need anything else."
