When Michelle is three years old, she receives a very special gift: a black-eyed doll named Beth. From the first day they meet, Michelle and Beth become best friends and do everything together. They share their tears, their dreams, and their fears. Beth is a good listener and a good companion; she hopes their time together will never end. As Michelle becomes a teenager, Beth notices that Michelle is changing. She spends more and more time with her friends, talks constantly on her telephone, and seems to be angry a lot. Beth doesn't understand what is happening, and it often makes her sad that Michelle doesn't seem to care about her anymore-especially when Michelle moves into her own apartment and Beth is left behind. Beth wonders if Michelle remembers all the wonderful times they spent together, and she hopes that one day they can be special friends again.
