The assassin came at him with a blood-curdling yell. Ivok barely flinched. There was blurring of movement and then blood spurted over the roughly woven rug. It was a silent death; the only thing Ivok regretted was that he had had no time to question the man.

Children are disappearing in the dead of night; panic-stricken parents are left with empty cradles and even emptier hearts. When Galina, High Priestess of the Temple, narrowly escapes an assassination attempt, she becomes suspicious of the Templers, trusting only in her personal guard, Ivok.
