Avant-garde experiments in the Filipino language deploying conceptualist and constructivist principles, this new collection of E. San Juan's poems and installations attempts to break new ground in the fields of both "unexpressive" writing and situational detournement. It is both institutional and allegorical critique of commodity aesthetics and neoliberal postcolonialism. Filipino becomes a weapon for decolonization and national-democratic liberation. His previous books, BUKAS, LUWALHATING KAY GANDA & MENDIOLA MASAKER, established precedents for this neoconceptualist re-invention of symbolic articulation by a "third world" activist from the Philippines.
