Publisher Marketing: Adrian, a hardworking and highly paid management consultant climbing the career ladder, is a Canadian living in Europe with his wife Hannah and their two children. Although on the surface his life appears settled, Adrian has skeletons in the closet from his university days and is frequently troubled by nightmares. While on vacation in Canada visiting his parents, he is tracked down after many years by an old enemy, Damian, in an encounter that almost costs him his life. What happened on that fateful night? As Adrian tries to understand, he is confronted with more questions than answers: Was Ella his university girlfriend really stolen from him by a terrifying creature, or was the whole incident just one of many hallucinations in an acid trip gone horribly wrong? Is marijuana really a drug? And can LSD open a connection to another world, or just damage the user's brain to the extent that he suffers paranoid flashbacks many years later? The murder of Adrian's parents ultimately forces a final confrontation between Adrian and Damian in a manner that brings back the memories of lost love and the ghosts of Adrian's psychedelic youth. This is a story about professional burn-out, drug use and confronting ghosts from the past. The lines between reality and hallucination are at times blurred, and the use of psychedelic drugs is described in a vivid and titillating manner, bringing a taboo subject into the mainstream. The novel is predominantly set in British Columbia, both in the present and in the 1990's. There are many books which attempt to "capture the spirit of the 80's, 70's, 60's," etc., this book captures the spirit of the 1990's. Vancouver is brought to life, both then and now.
