George's unease increases the higher they go. The platform stops suddenly with a jerk. While the men busily secure it, he turns onto his stomach and lifts his head, looking out over an ocean of blackness. The boy feels like he is part of the sky and starts gasping for air. "The air is thinner here George, try to relax," Grammy's voice says from a great distance. Feeling paralyzed, he is unable to hold on. He hears, "Grab him!" as he slips over the edge and falls into nothingness.
