Athol is a heartwarming story primarily about a beautiful girl called Flora. It takes place from 1902 to 1909 during the Gilded Age, along the Jefferson Highway and a side-track of the Missouri Pacific Railroad in coal mining territory. Nearly a spiritual experience for the author, he creates a life for Flora as he tours the remnants of the Athol Game Lodge and Hotel. Along with a few old photos and some trust-deed documents, a beautiful story evolves. Unusual circumstances and appearances of characters of the day make it a tender read.
