Safety is a pragmatic function that reduces risk through hazard controls to reduce or eliminate injuries and exposures. Culture, however, is abstract. How do we affect change on abstract cultural indicators when we have to convince others to keep themselves safe? Turning abstract culture into pragmatic safety is a matter of building, trust, communication, and systematic processes that can be scaled for any organization. With these processes allowing for leadership due diligence and employee engagement in safety, abstract cultures can become pragmatic safety.
