Luke's unique teaching on repentance is woven throughout his gospel in literary brilliance, as he retells Jesus' explicit teachings on repentance and demonstrates repentance through the use of story. Without Luke's detailed accounting, many of these teachings and stories would be lost to history, as they are not found in any of the other three canonical gospels. This commentary covers ten Lukan repentance passages for the purpose of informing the church's proclamation and practice of repentance. Repentance is a central component to the Christian message. Its centrality is demonstrated by Luke as he embeds the repentance motif in his own proclamation-his gospel. Both proclaimers and practitioners of repentance today can ground their message and lives in the Lukan tradition by paying attention to Luke's gospel. The story Luke tells contains demonstrative power as it shows readers what repentance looks like as it is lived out in the lives of those who accept Christ and His message.
