Just when Mel thought James was gone, he comes back and apologizes for what he did and offers Mel friendship. Mel, being so moved by this action, accepts James's apology and they become close friends again. Mel slowly begins to trust James as her mentor again, even though her boyfriend, Rodney, gets jealous. Months go by and Mel needs to figure out what she wants to produce for her senior project. She decides to take on the challenge of organizing and hosting an open mic night with poets and musicians. Mel knows it won't be easy, but with the help of her friends, teachers, and supporters, she is determined to give them a show they will never forget.
