Jesus had to do what Man failed to do. Jesus, the one who knew no sin, became sin for us so that each one of us would have a chance at eternal salvation as opposed to eternal damnation. Jesus knew early in life that He was going to die on the cross, but He also knew that He was going to be raised from the dead and become the propitiation for all mankind. As a result of Jesus dying on the cross, each of us would be able to make our own choice and decide for ourselves what course of life we would choose. I won't have to suffer for your sins and you won't be held accountable for the wrong I do either. Each man has to answer to God for themselves on that great day. Jesus spoke seven words when He hung on the cross being prepared to die, only to be raised up again 3 days later with all power in His hand, power to heal, forgive, and deliver, power to set the captive free. Jesus is the Great Sufferer Himself. Jesus was crucified on the cross, He was bruised for our iniquities, wounded for our transgressions and by His stripes we are healed. He carried our sins on the cross for us so that we could be set free, and he who is set free, is free indeed.
