Contained within these pages are two biographies told in alternating chapters by the single voice of one biographer. The life stories of a Jewish slave girl thriving in The Roman Empire and a farm boy discovering a larger world are entwined. Both will use philosophy to question religion, and each will discover the same answer. This fiction novel tells of two individuals separated by nineteen hundred years. Their life's experiences are vastly different, but they find surprising parallels in their philosophical and religious beliefs. The household of the famous Greek author and philosopher Plutarch from the 1ST century provides one setting, and a Canadian farm in the twentieth century gives us the other. Religious practices by ancient peoples are described from experiences of a common person in everyday life. The slave girl Lectra flourishes in this setting, using a strong will and a brilliant mind to unravel and expose the myths behind the beliefs of the Roman world. She discovers how to use the clear thinking of Greek philosophers to explain her confusing world. Many centuries later a prairie farm boy commences his search for rational answers in his religious world. His life's path will lead him far and wide, first to a military adventure and later an airline and farming career. However, he never escapes his atheism. Like Lectra he will study and use philosophy to aid his search. Unlike Lectra he will have the help of modern day science to aide in his search. They both find their long sought answer and are at peace with it.
