When the illicit drugs take hold of his mind and the bounderies between sleep and wakefulness blur the illusion of reality. The speaker has to report back from the brink of his own sanity that the lights may be off, but someone is always at home. The caos of a caotic life coupled with the illness lead the speaker into ever greater depths of hallucination and confussion.
