A political history of the American Revolution, no battles, in which the author tries to write the history of the American Revolution as John Jay asked Charles Thomson to write just after the revolution. The revolution was seen by the people at the time as much a civil war as it was a revolution. We follow characters not often discussed in American revolutionary history, Charles Thomson, Silas Deane, Robert Morris, Jonathan Zubly, and others, and among the loyalists, Thomas Hutchinson, Joseph Galloway, John Dickinson and William Franklin.
