Crisis and Renewal
Neil Tessler
Sant Mat, is an esoteric spiritual movement with global reach and an intriguing character and history. Radhasoami is a term applied to Sant mat groups descending from Soami Ji Maharaj (d.1878). With its unique emphasis on the role of the guru or spiritual master, succession is a critical element in the ongoing life of this tradition. Crisis and Renewal is a critique of modern Radhasoami scholarship pertaining to guru succession, with specific reference to the controversial succession of Hazur Baba Sawan Singh of Beas (d.1948). In the process insight is gained into the nature of spiritual succession within this lineage and tradition
