Five men survive a plane crash in the Colorado mountains. They hike down the mountain in search of a highway where they might obtain a ride. On the way down they discover a waterfall of colossal beauty. One of the men, Mac, is elderly and quite senile. Thinking he needed a bath, he jumps in the pool below the falls. During the rest of the hike downward, he displays unusual strength and agility. When they get to where they are going, he plays in a golf tournament with the men, and plays exceedingly well, achieving a hole in one. When the game is finished, the other men discover he has begun growing small dark hairs in his bald spot. They determine that he must be changing because of his dip in the pool, and they decide they want these same benefits for themselves. Since it is late in the day, they decide to return at a later date. One of the men, Gary Pitt, wants to take his wife there because she has cancer, and he hopes for a cure for her. The other men persuade him to wait until they have all taken a dip in the pool and see what it does for them. Then they promise they will help carry his wife up the mountain, plus bring their own wives He agrees, and they make the trip, finding at once that they are experiencing an enhanced strength. They go back to the rental car they are using, and head for home. A thunderstorm has begun with accompanying lightning, so they drive very carefully around the curves on the rain slick highway. They carefully advance around each curve, and meet their destiny.
