The Warmth Within
Chantal Sykes
This sweetly illustrated rhyming picture book is all about helping children ages 3-10 cope with the death or the loss of a loved one. In a positive way, the simple, gentle story shows children that after passing, their loves ones will always be with them in their heart, forever. Despite the serious topic, the tone is upbeat and sensitive, making readers feel comforted, with playful moments that lighten the mood.
The text avoids words like Heaven and God. Not everyone is religious, but everyone grieves and needs comfort. This story explores loss without provoking complex questions like "What is Heaven," "Is God real," etc.
