On the campus of Stanford University, there exists an old diary penned by a United States Senator who has long since passed, but the diary's dark secrets live on. Only three people have read the diary - two of them have been murdered and the other is an undergraduate student by the name of Ryan Lane. Meanwhile, a few hours away in Fresno, California, a political assassin's parole hearing has attracted worldwide media attention including Tony Kaye, an old school pen and paper journalist with the Washington Post. Inside a packed room full of prison guards and reporters, the assassin collapses and dies and Tony Kaye's investigative radar points him toward the story of a lifetime, a story that may cost him his life.
