The downward progression into addiction always involves separating from people who truly care. Many potential addicts never become addicts because they are unwilling to turn their back completely on the people in their lives. Overcoming addiction includes developing or reestablishing relationships with people who will help you. At the heart of the Christian gospel and salvation is loving and caring about people. The former addict will need to work hard to establish and maintain proper relationships with other followers of Jesus. This is not easy, but it is very important.
