Would you like to escape from a coronavirus infected planet? Here's the perfect antidote; take a trip back to a time when the world was both smaller and simpler. Rangoon, Burma, 1924. The British Empire is close to its zenith and Alan Fraser, a Scottish Detective Inspector, is posted to Rangoon to join the Imperial Police Service. He isn't happy to find himself in Rangoon, regarded by many as a provincial backwater and certainly not the place for an ambitious young officer.

But a British man has disappeared in perplexing circumstances. He is a member of an amateur dramatic society, the Rangoon Players, and has seemingly vanished during a rehearsal at the Empire Theatre.

Alan Fraser must find out what happened to the missing man if he is to escape from Burma and get his career back on track. He soon discovers disturbing undercurrents beneath the placid surface of the British community in Rangoon. Nothing is quite what it seems to be and it quickly becomes clear that it is not just the members of the Rangoon Players who pretend to be something they are not...

This isn't a cozy mystery, but it doesn't contain explicit sex or graphic violence. It's a mystery where the hero has to use his brain and, if he has inner demons, he isn't going to talk about them. A historical murder mystery for lovers of the traditional, classic crime fiction of Agatha Christie and Dorothy L. Sayers as well as an exciting evocation of 1920s Rangoon.
