The book describes the development of a new railway town, Wolverton, in the predominantly agricultural area of North Bucks from its beginning in 1839 up to 1939. Red brick terraced houses, arrayed in narrow streets on a grid pattern was a new phenomenon in an area known only for country cottages and had a significant social impact on the district.
