Anne Elliot was nobody with her father or her sisters. She was only Anne. Now aged twenty-seven, Anne experiences only anguish when Wentworth reappears, in company with other ofï¬cers whom peacetime has washed ashore. After a shocking accident on the Cobb at Lyme Regis, effectively closed for the winter, and an enforced visit to Bath, with its stultifying card-parties and polite nothings, Anne faces a future that will if anything be less certain than the one to which she has resigned herself. All she can be sure of is that it will be very different.
