Alternative Publishing/Small Press Classics (2017) binds together two short books. The first collects Richard Kostelanetz's essays on the subject in general and then the small publishers New Directions and Black Sparrow. Other texts recall Robert Lax as the epitome of a small-press writer and Kostelanetz's Assembling as the epitome of alternative publishing. The second complimentary book has Kostelanetz's brief recommendations of particularly strong books, mostly American and in English, appearing from smaller presses.
