Reflections on Perseverance: Growing Righteousness In Trials is a Christian women's 40 day daily devotional. The author, Jean B, Burden writes, "There's a thought that rolls around in my brain quite often these days: why do we separate life's actions and events into the secular and the sacred? Don't you think we do that? Sunday is sacred, but work is secular. Prayer time is sacred, but house cleaning is secular.




Well, I want to call this the secular-sacred antithesis, and it really has no place in the Christian journey. An antithesis is a set of ideas that go against each other, and yet, if Jesus is our model, nothing about Him went against any other part of Himself. Everything He did and said and thought and taught was sacred. Isn't it time in this challenging world that we, as His followers, realized that everything we do should be approached from a sacred perspective? Persevering against obstacles must be a sacred experience, and every day should hold sacred moments, even those that we have traditionally deemed secular. It's all about perspective.




Through this book I challenge you to rethink your daily journey . . . the challenging days and the ordinary ones. Look at each one through the purple lens of the royalty of Jesus Christ. Let this beautiful lens color everything you think and therefore, everything you do with the lens of King Jesus.
