This is the second and concluding book of 'The Ark' series. In the first volume, From the Shadows, we learned that after a scientific research project went catastrophically wrong, the Oddness effect was unleashed upon an unsuspecting world. Dark things that ought to have been safely locked away in people's imaginations stalked the Earth, bringing chaos and destruction. Out of this insanity came the Ark, the brainchild of Dr Charles Rikard and Abigail Pierson. On this craft, a thousand souls sought to escape the madness and find an answer to the Oddness effect. However, after six months in space, the Ark faced deadly peril. Its saviour came from an unlikely source, Brunt, a man thought to have been lost after a potential rebellion was thwarted and its members exiled. Under his control, the Ark broke free from its eternal orbit of Earth and headed toward the moon. Now Brunt has transformed the lunar landscape into an unlikely paradise, at least on the surface. Underneath, deadly games are at play, as the survivors of the Ark are coerced into providing endless entertainment to the beleaguered survivors of Earth. As the world literally crumbles to dust around them, these poor souls, barely aware of the daily parade of horrors set in front of them, wait helplessly for the end. Not everyone is a willing participant in Brunt's dominion, however. Gill Ashcroft, unwitting catalyst for the changes to the Ark, struggles against Brunt's manipulations and her inner demons. On Earth, Matt Pinter has become one of the watchers, and his belief feeds Brunt's machinations. For Matt, redemption comes from an unlikely source.
