A relatively small group of ordinary ladies came together, combined their skills and reached out to empower other ladies like themselves. Inch by inch, step by step they took positive action with innovative solutions to change the way society viewed domestic violence. In this view battered and formerly battered women are some of the smartest, strongest, courageous, most creative and resilient women in the world. Those who survive thrive. They were not alone. Concerned citizens all over the U. S. were organizing and advocating for radical change in the area of domestic violence. This was and is an extraordinary step considering the length of time domestic violence was considered a private matter. The book is based on true stories with the names changed to protect privacy. It is one view of the movement slowly awakening the country with one path to peace - elimination of domestic violence. Peace in our homes reshapes our thinking about world peace as the home is the first unit of civilization. We are living in extraordinary times, a time when ordinary people can accomplish extraordinary deeds. This is a time when peace is possible. Though much work has been and continues to be done in the area of eliminating interpersonal violence, much can still be done. Why do we allow domestic violence to exist?
