Product DescriptionBrain surgery, stroke, opioid addiction, and depression are battles he never saw coming in his wildest nightmares.
This book follows the transformative journey of Kawan Glover, who faced tragedies that would go on to change his perspective on life, and his purpose in it, forever.
His journey from an above-average high school student to a young man battle-hardened by constant bouts of adversity is only a brief glimpse at what this memoir entails. At the age of 20, a mass was found on his brain. Nevertheless, feeling invincible in his early 20s, he continued to live the life of a young, carefree college student. His choices would smash headfirst into his reality, deteriorating his physical and mental health.
Will Kawan continue on a downward spiral, or will his ordeals shine a light on his purpose in life?
What readers are saying
"This is a powerful story about overcoming adversity. More importantly, it is inspiring and motivating to the reader. He delivers real content without the fluff. He also provides usable strategies to help you deal with what you're going through. This book is a must-read!"
"In this memoir, Kawan has woven together an accessible yet inspiring narrative of his journey to overcome adversity and find the light on the other side of (and sometimes within) life's darkest moments. There is special significance in his experience as a young black man fighting for his survival and future, but the book is a must-read for anyone looking to be reminded of their power and the favor of God on their lives. Highly recommend."
"Kawan's depiction of his struggle is very real, raw, and relatable. Overcoming his trauma will serve as an inspiration to many others."
From the back cover"Keep going'" "push through'" and "ignore the pain" was my motto, but life was about to run headfirst into that philosophy. When I graduated high school, I had the girl and the grades and was voted most likely to succeed. During college, though, I only succeeded in facing battles back to back. Attempted suicide, drug addiction, and multiple hospital visits were only a portion of my journey. Death was only a few steps away, yet I continued to sprint toward it. I struggled with an addiction to Percocet as I tried to drown out depression. My familiarity with hospitals led me to increased anxiety, and I began to question how long I had to live-my medical debt accumulated to $1.2 million. I blamed myself for it all, and the guilt forced me to pull away and suffer in silence. Starting at the age of 20, my life was on the line constantly, but I kept up habits that exacerbated my pain. As a result, I would have three brain surgeries and a stroke that would change my life and perspective forever. To discover my true purpose, I needed to let go of the guilt trapping me in this mindset. If I couldn't let go of the habits that led to this state, the third time will no longer be the charm.
