Hard Times
Charles Dickens
Hard Times: For These Times (also known as Hard Times) is Charles Dickens' tenth novel, first published in 1854. The book explores British society and satirizes the social and economic conditions of the time. It is his only novel without a set in London. Rather than a fictional Victorian industrial Coketown story, a mill town in the north of England in some way akin to Manchester, albeit on a smaller scale, Coketown may have some roots in 19th-century Preston part.
