Bartok: Concerto For Orchestra

Fritz Reiner

Since its release in 1956, this recording of Bartók's “Concerto For Orchestra” has been considered the benchmark against which all other recordings must be measured. Reiner's masterful control of his orchestra and of Bartók's rhythms and textures, as well as his intense and precise performance, remain unsurpassed to this day, even by dozens of subsequent conductors. Part of the dedication to Bartók's work is certainly due to Reiner's friendship with the Hungarian composer. In addition, the music for string instruments, percussion and celesta demonstrates what an incredible ensemble the Chicago Symphony Orchestra was under Reiner's baton.

Béla Bartók's Concerto For Orchestra with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Fritz Reiner is an audiophile's dream recording. It has string tone to die for, a soundstage that fills your living room, and exhibits startling dynamics. ... if you pass on this issue, you will miss out on what is the best-sounding pressing of this LP. In combination with great remastering, pressing on whisper quiet vinyl and packaging in a first-class record sleeve, this is a bargain." (Recording = 10/10; Music = 10/10 — Dennis D. Davis, Hi-Fi +, Issue 121)

The reissue of the “RCA Living Stereo Classical” series by Analogue Productions meets the highest audiophile standards: Bernie Grundman is responsible for remastering the original tapes. The double LP (45 RPM) includes a 2-page booklet and was pressed on 180-gram vinyl by industry leader Quality Record Pressings (QRP) using Classic Records equipment. We recommend the use of "L'Art du Son" LP cleaner to wet wash your vinyl. Even new records of high quality production will benefit from this.
