In the 2000's, Downbeat Magazine declared this iconic 1958 recording to be #7 on their Top Blues Albums of All Time list! The songs of Bessie Smith are reimagined via the rocking jazz gospel voice of LaVern Baker, and the results are nothing short of magical! Immaculately engineered by Tom Dowd, you will feel like LaVern is singing her soul out directly to you. This album is flawless. 180 gram.
